As a dedicated academic and researcher in the field of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, I have spent over two decades advancing knowledge and developing innovative solutions to address some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. My journey began with a strong foundation in Chemical Engineering, earning both my B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), followed by a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada. My doctoral research focused on combined adsorption and biodegradation processes for oil sands process-affected water treatment, which laid the groundwork for my ongoing commitment to sustainable water treatment technologies. Throughout my career, I have held various academic and professional positions, including my current role as a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering at BUET. In this capacity, I have led numerous national and international research projects, focusing on wastewater treatment, advanced oxidation processes, and the development of novel nanomaterials for environmental remediation. My work has been instrumental in addressing issues such as textile wastewater treatment, microplastic pollution, and the degradation of pharmaceutical contaminants in water systems. As an educator, I have supervised over 20 M.Sc. theses and am currently guiding 2 Ph.D. students, fostering the next generation of engineers and researchers. I have also served as an editorial board member for prestigious journals such as Sustainability and Scientific Reports, and have reviewed over 200 manuscripts for leading publishers like Elsevier, Wiley, and Springer. My research has been recognized with several awards, including the Research Excellence Award from BUET Forum 86 and the Best Research Paper Award from Environmental Technology and Innovation Journal. I have also secured numerous research grants from national and international funding bodies, such as the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and the Ministry of Science and Technology, enabling me to continue pushing the boundaries of environmental engineering. Looking ahead, I am committed to expanding my research on sustainable wastewater treatment technologies and circular economy solutions for waste management. I am particularly interested in exploring the potential of biochar-based materials and nanocomposites for the removal of emerging contaminants, as well as developing integrated life cycle assessment (LCA) frameworks for sustainable industrial practices.
