Needs Assessment of Bangladesh’s apparel and textile sector to identify Key Industry Transition Needs (KITNs)

Needs Assessment of Bangladesh’s apparel and textile sector to identify Key Industry Transition Needs (KITNs)

The global apparel and textile industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation driven by rising regulatory requirements, increasing buyer expectations, and the urgent need to reduce environmental impact while remaining globally competitive. In response to these challenges, the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) launched the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI) in 2025 as a manufacturer-led, nationally driven, and globally coordinated effort aims to support the transition of the apparel and textile industry through the development of Apparel and Textile Transformation Plans at the country level. ATTI aims to drive environmental transformation of the apparel and textile supply chain through collective, industry-led action addressing systemic challenges.

In Bangladesh, the ATTI Country Chapter has been established jointly by BGMEA and BKMEA—positioning the country among the first globally to lead this initiative.

As part of this effort, Engineering Resources International (ERI) has been appointed to conduct a comprehensive Needs Assessment to identify the key industry transition needs required to accelerate transformation.

The Challenge Of Project

The global apparel sector is at a critical juncture. Despite ongoing efforts, progress has been constrained by fragmented initiatives and lack of coordination, limited national ownership, gaps in financing and scalable solutions.
